Effective immediately, Covington Independent Public Schools will no longer require masks or face coverings to be worn by students or staff while inside our buildings and on our campuses. Last Friday, Governor Andy Beshear ended the mask mandate in Kentucky including in our schools and our central office buildings. The Kentucky Department of Education also ended its COVID-19 mitigation requirements including wearing masks and social distancing in public schools.
Students and staff who still wish to wear face coverings may continue to do so. The district also is no longer required to report the number of staff or students who have COVID or are in quarantine to the state dashboard. When a positive case occurs, the district will continue to work with the health department and notify individuals who may be affected.
Please note that masks are still required by staff and students while riding a school bus or TANK bus. Drivers and monitors, likewise, must remain masked while students are on the bus. Students may remove their masks upon exiting the school bus.
Gov. Beshear's Executive Order 2021-386 (EO 2021-386) and the Kentucky Department of Education on June 11 rescinded its COVID-19 guidance document, “Guidance and Safety Expectations and Best Practices for Kentucky Schools (K-12),” commonly known as Healthy at School.
If you should have questions, please contact your child’s school.
