Return to In-person Learning on September 28

Back to the classroom

September 21, 2020

Dear Parents/Guardians/Staff:

Covington Independent Public Schools will return to in-person learning on September 28, operating on the “A/B” Hybrid Model.

This means students who are assigned to the “A” group will attend school in person on Mondays and Tuesdays. Students assigned to the “B” group will attend school in person on Thursdays and Fridays. Students will continue to log in and complete assignments online on days in which they are not scheduled to attend in person. Earlier this month during orientation visits, schools informed students of which group they were assigned. Please contact your child’s school if you are not sure of your child’s grouping. Students who opted for virtual only in the Covington Virtual Academy, will continue with their online assignments five days a week. Just a reminder that Covington Virtual Academy students must remain fully virtual until December 18.

Preschool students will attend morning and afternoon sessions Monday through Thursday. Bus routes and the school day, will continue as they did during a regular school year. For more information, please see Return to School Roadmap on the district’s website, covington.kyschools.us.

Students in kindergarten-12th grade are required to wear face coverings on buses and while at school (unless medically excused). Employees also are required to wear face coverings while in school and district buildings. Everyone is expected to socially distance at least 6 feet apart.

In accordance with KRS 158.160 and 902 KAR2:220E, parents/guardians are required to notify their child’s school within 24 hours of a positive COVID-19 diagnosis. The district also must report students/faculty COVID19 numbers to the state on a daily basis. Nurses at each site will get those numbers to Jennifer Fowee, Director of Health Services, who will in turn report the numbers to the state.

We look forward to having our students back in schools and in our classrooms. A safe return to in-person classes requires students, teachers and staff to practice safety measures at home and at school. Moving forward, we all play a critical role in keeping our schools open. At school, we must wear face coverings, socially distance, wash our hands and cover our coughs and sneezes. We must also monitor our own health and stay home when we are ill.

If you should have any questions, please call your child’s principal. As always, stay safe.

Warmest Regards,

Alvin L. Garrison,
Superintendent
