Covington student, employee honored during Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration

Congratulations to Tatiana Phillips, a senior at Holmes High School and Barbara Hill, an administrative assistant at Holmes Middle School, who were recognized during the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. celebration on Monday afternoon. The annual luncheon is sponsored by the Northern Kentucky Branch of the NAACP.Barb Hill, center, MLK Image

Tatiana was presented with a $500 scholarship. Tatiana plans to attend Howard University in Washington, D.C.  She will be a pre-med major in the fall.

Mrs. Hill received the NAACP Dr. Martin Luther King Vision and Unity Award. Mrs. Hill is the founder of the Phenomenal Woman Celebration, where she recognizes women for doing remarkable work.

“We are so proud of our students and employees for being honored for the work that they do in school and in the community,” said Superintendent Alvin Garrison. “This is just outstanding.’’

The winners were supported at the event with family members.
Other students from Covington Holmes students with reporterSchools were recognized for helping with the event.  They include LaVeah and VeaOnna Dawson; Shanasia, Tajuan and Shontez Huff, and Aaliyah Hayes. 

Holmes seniors Jayla Bright and Tatiana were thrilled to meet and talk with Dr. Ursula Doyle, professor, Chase College of Law, and the  mistress of ceremonies,
Ashley Kirklen, reporter, Channel 5 News.
