Mrs. MeyerLet me be the first to welcome you to Latonia Elementary School! I am so glad to have you as part of our LES family and am thankful you have chosen our school for your child’s education.  Our mission here at LES is to ensure that every student meets their full potential and we are proud to work under the motto “We are all in this together!”  We know it is essential for the school and the community to work together to ensure the success of all students and I am looking forward to a great year as we collaborate to accomplish this common goal.

Here at Latonia, we have an incredible staff who work collaboratively to create a safe learning environment with high expectations for success.   We absolutely love our amazing students, and I am extremely proud to work with a team that is committed to fostering the development of the whole child.  In order to meet the academic needs of students, we use standards-based instruction to teach the Kentucky Academic Standards (https://kystandards.org/).  We regularly review student progress in order to meet individual needs through enrichment or intervention.  Additionally, we believe it is our responsibility to meet non-academic needs of all students as well, which is why we teach the social and emotional learning and character education program Choose Love (https://chooselovemovement.org/schools/).  We are dedicated to providing students with a well-rounded educational experience that will lead to future success in life.

Parent communication and support is essential to the success of any school. In addition to our website, please follow us on Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/latoniaelementary/) and connect to your child’s Class Dojo, as these two methods are used regularly to communicate important information to families.  Students also have red school-to-home communication folders that are used to send important paperwork, newsletters, and notes when needed.  Last, we do use a one call system that will call and send texts with important messages, so please make sure your contact information is up-to-date and contact the office with any changes as they occur.

Our school does have a Family Resource Center to support student success in school by helping to minimize or eliminate barriers to learning.  Please contact our FRC coordinator if you could benefit from these services.   We also have a free after school Community Learning Center, which offers additional academic support, as well as a wealth of high interest extension opportunities, such as Gardening and Lego-Robotics club.

I look forward to working closely with you as we support your child’s learning here at Latonia Elementary!
