School board votes to extend Supt. Alvin Garrison’s contract another four years

Alvin Garrison

Covington Superintendent Alvin Garrison is staying at the helm of Covington Independent Public Schools for at least another four years.

The Covington Board of Education approved a four-year contract extension for Garrison at its board meeting Thursday.

The board voted 4-1 to approve an addendum to Garrison’s contract that extends the agreement to June 2026.

The contract previously would have ended June 30, 2022.

“I am extremely honored that the board continues to have confidence in my leadership and the direction of our school district,” said Garrison, who has served as superintendent since 2013. “Prior to the pandemic, we had great momentum, positive energy, and the majority of our schools were demonstrating increases in student growth. I am so thankful that we get to continue this amazing journey of improving student outcomes together.”

Board Chair Glenda Huff said details of the contract, such as salary, will be worked on in the coming months.

“We’re excited to continue his contact and the vision that he has for the district,” Huff said.

Board member Tom Haggard voted against the extension.
