Commissioner's Visit

Commissioner's Visit

Commissioner Ryan Quarles witnessed first-hand the hard work and dedication of the 3rd-5th grade students at Latonia Elementary School.  He spoke with several students about Herbmania, a student-led entrepreneurial activity aligned to Kentucky’s career clusters that focuses on career education, real-world economic decisions, and 21st century skills such as critical thinking, leadership, flexibility, creative thinking, initiative, and collaboration. Herbmania is led by teacher Bob Runyan through the 21st Century Community Learning Center.

In addition to speaking with the students, Commissioner Quarles also visited the .75 acre outdoor garden, 600 square foot hoop house, and the indoor hydroponics area. Students were eager to show him the worm farm, and Commissioner Quarles presented students with ‘Kentucky Proud’ stickers. The students are hoping for another visit from Commissioner Quarles during this year’s summer program. #KentuckyProud #PlantingSeedsGrowingEntrepreneurs
