Superintendent Garrison to lead cooperative

Superintendent Alvin Garrison

Congratulations to Covington Superintendent Alvin Garrison who will serve as president of the Northern Kentucky Cooperative for Educational Services for the 2018-19 school year.

Garrison, who is beginning his sixth year as Covington’s superintendent, said he is thankful for the trust that his fellow superintendents have placed in him.

“It is such a huge honor to be selected by my colleagues,’’ Garrison said. “It is my hope that we will continue the improved collaboration between districts.  The cooperative is at its best when we have open and honest lines of communications in addition to the high academic and societal expectations for our region’s 68,000 students – our most valuable commodity.’’

The cooperative is comprised of Northern Kentucky superintendents from 17 school districts.  The superintendents meet monthly to discuss critical issues, such as leveraging funds to help the region. The cooperative works closely with the Kentucky Department of Education and collaborates with other educational cooperatives to promote understanding and to provide mutual benefit.  The cooperative has been around for more than 30 years.

Amy Razor, executive director of the cooperative, said Garrison’s leadership style is a perfect match for the cooperative board.  “I believe that Superintendent Garrison’s exemplary commitment to all students, along with his remarkable ability to remain focused, ask the difficult questions, and yet hold high expectations for himself and others, makes him an exceptional leader for our region,’’  she said.

She went on to say that Garrison believes in a culture of support and collaboration and demonstrates that in his district and through his regional stewardship.

“It takes a confident and strong leader to believe in the larger educational landscape and its’ critical impact on our work as educators. His regional and state stewardship can be held up as an example for all leaders,’’ Ms. Razor said.

“I feel privileged to have the opportunity to work more closely with him and more importantly, look forward to the vision that he will set for our region’s leaders as they work together to impact all students in the commonwealth.’’
