Soccer Changes at Holmes High School

Tom Haggard

After leading the Holmes High School Boys’ Soccer Team in its most successful season in Bulldog history, Tom Haggard is resigning as head coach.

The team finished the fall campaign 11-6-2 and set school records for most wins, fewest losses, most goals scored and fewest goals allowed in a season.

“I have been involved with Holmes soccer as a player, fan or coach since 1995,” Haggard said. “I think it’s time for fresh blood and new ideas at this important moment in our soccer program’s history.’’

Haggard, who has been head coach for three years, helped rebuild the boys’ soccer program into a robust and competitive program that include opportunities for middle school, junior varsity and varsity players and engages over 60 young men. Several of his players have received scholarships to play soccer in college.

The soccer team compiled a 24-24-3 record with Haggard at the helm. He began as an assistant coach for the girls’ varsity soccer team in 2011.

Haggard will be replaced Christian Reyes, who has served as the junior varsity soccer head coach at Holmes. "I am honored to be the head coach for the boys’ soccer team here at Holmes High school,’’ Reyes said. “A goal of mine is to carry the spirit of the team into new heights for the upcoming season,”

The team will open its season in the new state-of-the-art stadium on the Holmes campus on Saturday, August 26 at 7 p.m. against district-rival Covington Latin.
