Students Put Skills to Good Use

Pablo Mondragon and Daylan Griffin

Two seniors at Holmes High School are taking advantage of the skills they have learned in carpentry class by working in paid co op positions with a local construction company.

Daylan Griffin and Pablo Mondragon will work with Messer for the remainder of the school year with the goal of becoming full time employees and entering the company’s apprentice program upon graduation.

The students make $15 an hour. They will work on the St. Elizabeth expansion project and at the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport. Daylan and Pablo will work with professionals two days a week as they further hone their skills.

“I am thrilled that our program is developing relationships with companies such as Messer, said Eric Breetz, carpentry instructor. “Our students will be well prepared to enter their Department of Labor apprenticeship program this coming fall. Upon completion, the students will receive 45 hours of articulated credits through Cincinnati State.’’

Mr. Breetz also is developing a similar co op program with HGC Construction.

Thank you Mr. Breetz for establishing these partnerships to help our students, and thank you Daylan and Pablo for representing Holmes well.
