NKyTribune sports reporter

Stephen Lickert, an award-winning high school football player and coach, will be one of six inductees into the Northern Kentucky Sports Hall of Fame during a ceremony at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Villa Hills Civic Club that is open to the public.

Lickert was a running back on the 1996 Highlands football team that won the Class 3A state title and he received a Top 24 Award from the Northern Kentucky Football Coaches Association. He went on to play linebacker for Georgetown College and was an All American on the 2000 NAIA national championship team.

For the last 15 years, Lickert has been a head football coach at four Northern Kentucky high schools. After starting his head coaching career at Dayton (2004-06), he went to Holmes (2007-10) and Campbell County (2011-17) before taking charge of the Newport Central Catholic program last season.

During his career, Lickert has been named a district coach of the year twice and he received the Owen Hauck Award from the local coaches association twice.

The other five inductees into the hall of fame on Wednesday will be:

Tony Bacigalupo — Award-winning basketball player for Newport Central Catholic who coached for several years before becoming athletic director at Covington Catholic.

Michael Bowling — Beechwood basketball and baseball player who is now an athletic trainer for Northern Kentucky high school teams with St. Elizabeth Healthcare.

James Hengehold — St. Henry’s career scoring leader in basketball with 2,293 points who went on to play at Xavier University.

Jason Moore — Football player at Holmes and Thomas More who later directed the Northern Kentucky Youth Football League and coached at Holmes.

Jeff Schulkens — Newport Central Catholic baseball coach whose teams have won four 9th Region post-season titles, four 9th Region All “A” Classic titles and one All “A” Classic state championship.
