School Board Recognition

Sarah Flerlage

January is School Board Recognition Month, a time to celebrate and thank board members for the countless hours they spend working to provide the best possible education for our students. We most certainly appreciate members of the Covington Board of Education who not only serve as advocates for children but also for public schools.

“Though January is set aside for board recognition month, we know that our board members work hard all year,’’ said Superintendent Alvin Garrison.“They not only set the vision for the district, they also send their children and grandchildren to Covington schools and support students by attending their events. I cannot thank them enough for all that they do.’’

Each week, we will get to know Covington board members a little better as we highlight them through a series of questions.

Sarah Flerlage

Q. How many years have you served on the Covington Board of Education?
A. I am brand new. This is my first year

Q. Why did you run for school board?
A.  I ran for the betterment of the schools and community. I am raising my children in Covington. I hope to help improve their lives and the lives of all the children of Covington.

Q. What is your favorite memory?
A. I love celebrating birthdays. I decorate my kids room so that when they wake up they know it is their big day. So, a lot of my favorite moments come from things like that.

Q. What skill would you like to master?
A. I'd love to get my black belt in some kind of martial arts. I think it would be great exercise and stress relief

Q. What are some small things that make your day better
A. Hugs from my kids. It is a small thing, but it makes everything better
